Support for Parents and Carers in Tasmania

Helping you understand, support and respond to
your child with confidence and care

Parenting can feel overwhelming at times, especially when your child is experiencing big emotions, behavioural changes, or distress.

At Children’s Therapy Tasmania, we offer compassionate, trauma-informed support for parents and carers who want guidance, understanding, and reassurance as they support their child’s emotional wellbeing.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Support begins with a simple conversation.

Parenting Support Grounded in Understanding and Connection

Parents know their children best, yet when challenges arise, it can be hard to know what your child needs or how to respond in the moment. Many parents come to us feeling worried, uncertain, or questioning themselves.

Our parenting support is designed to walk alongside you, not judge or blame. We offer a space to reflect, learn, and strengthen your relationship with your child, while honouring your values and family context.

We support parents and carers who are:

  • Concerned about their child’s emotions or behaviour

  • Feeling unsure how to respond to big feelings or meltdowns

  • Wanting to better understand what’s happening beneath their child’s behaviour

  • Supporting a child through anxiety, change, grief, or difficult experiences

  • Seeking guidance that feels respectful, practical, and compassionate

Our Approach to Child Therapy

Trauma-Informed, Relationship Focused and Non-Judgemental

Our approach recognises that parenting is deeply relational and influenced by stress, life experiences, and support systems. We work in ways that prioritise safety, curiosity, and understanding - for both children and parents.

Parent support at Children’s Therapy Tasmania is:

Strengths-Based

We build on what you’re already doing well.

Trauma-Informed

We understand how stress and experiences impact both children and parents.

Emotionally Safe

Building trust and safety is central to the therapeutic relationship.

Collaborative

You’re the expect on your child - we work alongside you.

How Parents are Supported

Parents often tell us they value having a space where they feel heard and supported, rather than judged or corrected.

Through parenting support, you may experience:

  • Greater confidence in responding to your child’s emotions

  • A deeper understanding of your child’s behaviour and needs

  • Practical strategies that align with your values

  • Reduced stress and self-doubt

  • Stronger connection and relationship with your child

Support may be offered alongside your child’s therapy or as a standalone service, depending on your family’s needs.

Is Parenting Support Right for Me?

You may benefit from parent support if:

  • You’re feeling unsure or overwhelmed in your parenting role

  • You want to respond differently to your child but aren’t sure how

  • Your child is experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges

  • You’d like support grounded in connection rather than behaviour charts or quick fixes

  • You value reflective, trauma-informed care

If you’re unsure whether this service is the right fit, we’re happy to talk things through with you.
