Counselling & Debriefing for Professionals

You hold a lot.

Stories of harm and hope. Big feelings in small bodies. Parents who are stretched thin. Systems that don’t always work in the way they should.

We offer confidential counselling and debriefing for professionals who work with children and families, so you don’t have to hold it all on your own. Its a space for you to exhale, make sense of what you’re holding and feel like a person again (not just a role).

The heart of this service is simple: to support your wellbeing, sustainability and to help prevent vicarious trauma and burn out, so you can keep doing the work you care about without losing yourself along the way.

What we offer

30 minute debrief sessions

Perfect for ‘I just need to talk through this’ moments.

Use a debrief when you’ve had:

  • a particular heavy child session

  • a crisis, disclosure or incident

  • a challenging parent meeting or system meeting

  • a day were lots of small things have quietly build up

60 minute counselling sessions

Best for ongoing deeper support, ongoing work around your wellbeing, boundaries and holding the emotional weight of the work to support sustainability.

These sessions give us space to:

  • explore patterns over time (burn out, people pleasing or over responsibility)

  • work with longer standing impacts of vicarious trauma and stress

  • reconnect with your values, hopes and identity as a practitioner

  • build practical and emotional strategies for sustainable practice

  • This service is designed for people who work with children, young people and their families, including:

    • Therapists, counsellors and allied health professionals

    • Teachers and wellbeing staff

    • Child protection workers and support coordinators

    • Early childhood educators and carers

    • Disability support workers and youth workers

    • Team leaders and managers in child and family services

If your work involves supporting others, especially children, you deserve a space to feel supported too.

  • You might recognise yourself in some of these:

“I’m carrying more than I can safely hold right now.”

    • You debrief quickly in corridors or cars, then go straight into the next session.

    • You’re starting to feel numb, snappy or tearful, and it’s getting harder to switch off.

    • You’re worried about vicarious trauma or burnout, but not sure what to do differently.

“Supervision and EAP aren’t quite meeting this need.”

    • Supervision is helpful for professional development, but there’s limited time for your emotional load.

    • EAP has felt too generic or short-term, and you’re tired of explaining your job before you can get to what’s really going on.

    • You want a space that is not tied to your employer, not part of performance or KPIs.

“I need somewhere I can be fully honest.”

    • You have feelings you’re not proud of: frustration with families, anger at systems, fear of making mistakes.

    • You might carry your own trauma or identity-based experiences that are stirred up by your work.

    • You want to talk about all of this with someone who understands child work, systems and complexity and won’t judge you for being human

  • These sessions are tailored to you and your context. Some of the things we might explore:

    • Debriefing difficult sessions and incidents

      • Processing what happened, what it stirred up for you, and what you need now

    • Vicarious trauma, moral distress & compassion fatigue

      • Naming impacts, building practices that support nervous system regulation and recovery

    • Boundaries & role clarity

      • Saying no, holding limits, negotiating expectations in schools, NDIS or services

    • Identity and belonging as a practitioner

      • Early-career wobbles, “am I cut out for this?”, imposter feelings

    • Leadership load (for coordinators & team leaders)

      • Holding staff distress, organisational pressure, and your own humanity

    • Sustainable practice & staying in the field

      • Creating rhythms, supports and boundaries that make this work more sustainable over time

This counselling space can sit alongside your clinical supervision. It doesn’t replace supervision or line management, it gives you an additional layer of personal support and reflection.

  • It’s normal to worry about what it means to seek support as a practitioner or leader, especially in smaller communities and sectors.

    In this space:

    • You attend as you, not as an employee or representative of your organisation.

    • No reports go back to your employer, manager or HR.

    • You’re welcome to speak freely about your workplace, systems and leadership experiences.

    • If there is any overlap in roles (for example, if I also provide supervision or training), we will talk openly about boundaries so that things feel clear and safe for you.

We’ll always take time to check what feels okay to talk about, and how we can keep this space feeling as steady and respectful as possible.

  • At Children’s Therapy Tasmania, this work is guided by a few key commitments:

    • Child-centred and practitioner-honouring

      • I hold a deep respect for the children and families you support and for the people who show up to do that work.

    • Trauma-informed and nervous-system aware

      • We move at your pace, with care for how the body holds stories and stress. You can always slow down, pause, or come back to something later.

    • Values-led and relational

      • Your values, integrity and hopes for your work matter. We’ll keep them in view as we make sense of the harder parts.

    • Curious, not pathologising

      • Feelings like anger, resentment, fear or numbness are seen as signals and adaptations, not as personal failings.

    • Collaborative

      • You bring expertise in your own life and context. I bring a grounded, therapeutic holding space. We’ll work together to shape what feels supportive for you.

  • All sessions are offered via secure video call, so you can meet from:

    • Your home office

    • A private space at work

    • Anywhere in Tasmania (or interstate) where you can be comfortable and undisturbed
